Thoughts are formed by words. Words give shape to a space by means of vibration. But first of all, thoughts are formed by memories. In every possible moment, thoughts and memories swarm, merge, collide, and they disappear. Memories have a permanent matrix to which they constantly return. Just occasionally, they emerge to the surface, after which they recede once again. 

Memories are matrices of existence. They are imprinted in our minds. Memory matrices allow us to form opinions and make judgments. In accordance with memory matrices, we mold our everydayness and weave its recurring rhythms.  

 

Interaction between the artist and the machine

The concept of this work is to present a moment in memory, to find ways to preserve thought in a memory and translate it into the real world – into a print. The solution to this question lies in the possibilities offered by the interaction between the artist and the machine.    

The matrix (the one existing in the real world – the printmaking matrix) is nothing but a blank structure at the beginning. It is an indentation waiting to be fulfilled with our being.  Therefore, I am doing an installation using a desk with black, shiny surfaces which reflect the symmetry of the moment and the complementary “me”. The empty matrices will be filled with memories, through an interaction with the machine.    

This work shifts the focus from the end-product in printmaking (a print) to the process of forming the matrix. The resulting print is merely a document of artistic creation and any accompanying aesthetics is purely coincidental. The possibility of aesthetic manipulation in a traditional sense of planning the compositing is eliminated. It is only a transitory thought that guides the engraving needle into the matrix, recording a moment in time. 

 

How does the machine work?

The “memory recording machine” consists of connectors, which are attached to the head, computer software and a robot. The mind activates the machine, assisted by electromagnetic waves and the software which recognizes the brain impulses and sends the command to the mechanical robot to engrave the impulses into the matrix.  This is how the machine transfers the mental matrices into the physical matrix. In that very moment, the artist’s thought becomes a materialized matrix, while the matrix and its impression become a record of a state of consciousness.   

Misli oblikuju riječi. Riječi svojom vibracijom oblikuju prostor. No, prije svega sjećanja oblikuju misli. U svakom trenutku, sjećanja i misli se roje, spajaju, sudaraju i potom nestaju.  Sjećanja imaju samo upamćenu matricu u koju se stalno vraćaju te se povremeno ponovo pojave na površini. Zatim potonu.

Sjećanja jesu matrice postojanja koje su utisnute u naš um. Prema matricama sjećanja formiramo mišljenja, donosimo sudove. Prema matricama sjećanja ispunjavamo

 svakodnevnicu i tkamo njen ritam ponavljanja.

 

Interakcija umjetnika i stroja

Koncept rada je kako prikazati trenutak sjećanja, kako zadržati misao na sjećanju  i prevesti je u stvarni fizički svijet – grafički otisak. Rješenje i odgovor na to pitanje sam pronašla u mogućnosti interakcije stroja i umjetnika.

Matrica (ona u fizičkom svijetu – grafička matrica) je na samom početku prazna. Ona je pripremljena i formirana praznina koja čeka popunjavanje našim komplementarnim bićem. Stoga stvaram instalaciju sa stolom koji ima crne sjajne plohe u kojima se zrcali simetrija trenutka i mojeg komplementarnog ja. Praznine matrice će se popuniti sjećanjima putem interakcije sa strojem.

U ovom radu je pažnja sa konačnog produkta u grafičkom procesu (što je grafički list), usmjerena prema procesu izrade matrice. Otisak predstavlja samo dokument umjetničkog djelovanja i svaka estetika je gotovo potpuno slučajna.  Mogućnost estetske manipulacije u tradicionalnom smislu planiranja kompozicije  je otklonjena. Samo trenutna misao usmjerava iglu koja gravira crtu u matricu i bilježi jedan trenutak.

 

Kako funkcionira stroj?

Stroj za „bilježenje sjećanja“ se sastoji od konektora koji se pričvršćuju za glavu, od računala sa software-om i robota. Um pokreće stroj pomoću elektomagnetskih valova koje odašilje mozak i pomoću software-a koji te impulse prepoznaje te daje naredbu mehaničkom robotu da gravira impulse u matricu. Mentalne matrice se tako prenose putem stroja na fizičku matricu. U tom trenutku misao umjetnika postaje materijalizirina matrica, a matrica i njen otisak postaju dokument jednog stanja svijesti.
