The work addresses the physical and emotional presence of mothers in their children's lives – mothers whose sacrifices, love, desires, and feelings often go unnoticed by others. Only the outline of a body beneath the fabric hints at her existence.
The concept behind the artwork "The Present Ones" pays homage to the Victorian photographic practice of "hidden mothers". To photograph children, photographers created remarkable compositions by draping the mother's body in fabric, effectively turning her into part of the backdrop. While this was common practice in the photography industry at the time, today it seems bizarre.
Historical photographs of these fabric-draped "hidden mothers" reveal a striking parallel with contemporary societal attitudes towards mothers and women, whose needs often remain invisible. Through a carefully conceived and deliberate color palette, the choices regarding light and color in my work cease to be merely decorative; instead, they function as a visual language that mirrors internal emotional and psychological states.
Djelo tematizira fizičku i emocionalnu prisutnost majki u životima njihove djece – majki čije žrtve, ljubav, želje i osjećaji često ostaju nezapaženi od strane drugih. Tek obris tijela ispod tkanine nagovještava njezino postojanje.
Koncept iza umjetničkog djela „Prisutne” (The Present Ones) odaje počast viktorijanskoj fotografskoj praksi „skrivenih majki”.
